Am important read. A very good history of the whys and wherefores of the blanket protests that eventually lead to the tragedies of 1981. Though this book does not deal with those hunger strikes it does a terrific job of coerving the background leading up to them.

Must read A must read for everyone interested in the prison protest. Along with “Ten Men Dead” and “Nor Meekly Serve My Time” , one of the seminal works describing the era leading up to and including the hunger strikes. This book describes in graphic detail the brutal conditions these men lived through as well as the causative reasons.
