By the author of Rosemary‘s Baby, a horrifying journey into a future only Ira Levin could imagine.

Considered one of the great dystopian novels―alongside Anthony Burgess’s A Clockwork Orange and Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World―Ira Levin’s frightening glimpse into the future continues to fascinate readers even forty years after publication.

The story is set in a seemingly perfect global society. Uniformity is the defining feature; there is only one language and all ethnic groups have been eugenically merged into one race called “The Family.“ The world is ruled by a central computer called UniComp that has been programmed to keep every single human on the surface of the earth in check. People are continually drugged by means of regular injections so that they can never realize their potential as human beings, but will remain satisfied and cooperative. They are told where to live, when to eat, whom to marry, when to reproduce. even the basic facts of nature are subject to the UniComp’s will―men do not grow facial hair, women do not develop breasts, and it only rains at night.

With a vision as frightening as any in the history of the science fiction genre, This Perfect Day is one of Ira Levin`s most haunting novels.

Love this book! This is the third time I’ve read this book and truly love its message. Frankly, I’m surprised no one has made it into a movie. The future described in the book is a scary one and having a protagonist not succumb to the power and freedom he could have had if he just went along with what others wanted him to do is refreshing. And humbling, as I’m not sure what I would do in similar circumstances. My advice? If you like books such as “1984” and “Fahrenheit 451”, you will…

A superb dystopian novel This Perfect Day, by Ira Levin@@@@@ (5 out of 5)Centuries in the future, the people of Earth live under the control of an artificial intelligence called UniComp. A century and a half earlier, the computers governing the five continents had come together in the Unification. The result was a worldwide society free of war, hunger, crime, and violence of any sort. “Hate” and “fight” are swear words. This is the world Ira Levin describes in his superb science…

DON’T THANK ME, THANK UNI! I originally read this book many years ago. I think it was the 70’s when I first read it, and I read it every other year. I remember when I heard they were making the movie of it, and I literally cheered. The next thing I heard was that some mysterious powers that be, insisted it be shelved and never released. This is a story I feel everyone should read and I was so disappointed that the movie got canned. The wonderful thing about getting it on my kindle is that I don’t have to put more wear…
